DP, but look at the voting patterns of people with college degrees over time - educated people are increasingly voting for Democrats, while Republicans are increasingly the party of the uneducated. It doesn't take a brain genius to connect the dots to the parties' respective policy positions.

I don't know exactly what Fauci's politics are. But among mainstream public health experts, he's on the conservative side. What he recommended was mild compared to many other developed countries.
But according to simplistic GOP rhetoric, COVID was "lockdowns" vs. "freedom."
The GOP is so far off the spectrum that Fauci is considered a "leftist."

And the GOP has sadly taken an anti-scientific stance, with their climate denial, their magical belief that oil, gas and coal are in endless supply and have nothing to do with fossil biomass, their attacks on public health, vaccinations and womens health, their attacks on higher education, their attacks on EVs and alternative energy, their attacks on environmental protection, and dozens and dozens of other areas where Republicans are dragging us backwards.
