This is just not true. Both state and local are higher in NY.
Also the concern is whether you would have to pay DMV in state tax as a resident PLUS NY state because your income is derived from a NY source.

Train ticket is 300/week and lodging maybe another 300/week (staying one night). Take the 5am Acela and come back next evening. ITotally do-able. DC has a great quality of life but the salary progression can be super frustrating.
Lodging in nyc is now like 500 plus for a midrange hotel
