Wow this is so sad to hear. Last year was family travel and we had a great time. Coaches were great. Managed to create a lot of PVS team spirit. Spring zones was good too.

The coaching has been pretty bad- my kid told me that they have been encouraged to get in each other’s faces and be super competitive with one another not to mention the other Zones teams. Sounds awful

Bunch of kids got into trouble with the hotel staff

No, it’s team travel. The parents can go, but travel separately and stay in the hotel separately. The kids were bussed to Richmond as a team, they stay in the hotel together and have meals together, they are bussed to the pool together, and they have to be there for the entire meet so if you were only swimming on Thursday you still have to stay through Saturday.

Though some of those things did happen, it’s still been a great meet and a great experience. People will always find the worst in things. Plenty of positives. New friends. Great swims. Great experience.

+1 It sounded pretty bad, so we kept ours home.

Well, the LC times are actually harder so not sure what you mean. But I do think the team travel is unnecessary.

The SC Zones cut times can be used to qualify for LC Zones (they didn’t adjust the SC cuts allowable, so it’s the exact same cut that applied for SC Zones), so no it’s not harder.

Right, what I’m saying is the LC cuts are harder - which is why a large number of kids had to use non-conforming (SC) times in order to qualify. The point is that PP was off base to say that SC Zones is hard to qualify for but LC Zones is a “joke.” It’s not like they dumb down the standards and make it easier to qualify LC - in fact, those cuts are harder to make. So I’m not sure what PP is trying to say.

Ugh, that sounds awful. We went to Zones in the spring, which was club based and family travel and a good experience for DC, but were glad that DC aged up before LC Zones because we weren’t sure about doing PVS team travel. Something to keep in mind for next summer though, so thanks for the forewarning.

The last two years have been family travel and they should have kept it that way

This year’s team travel has been a disaster- late buses, missed warm-ups, terrible communication. One bus left an hour late to Richmond because a coach forgot their own bags

Kids aren’t allowed back in their rooms for more than an hour between warm-ups and finals

Multiple kids screaming and making a ruckus, causing security to be called- clearly not enough supervision

Kids not wanting to swim finals and disappearing

What a joke- everyone says it’s not worth it to swim Zones for PVS and they’re right

Never again- parents be forwarned
