I agree. I never understood why they went there and why the partnership exists.

They formed the partnership when SYC didn't think they were going to get MLS Next. Then they did.

DS (U12/2010) may be looking to change clubs heading into next year. Question re: VA Union. I see that it's an alliance between McLean and SYC. However, does SYC really send any of its boys to VA Union since they play in MLS Next (and do fairly well)?

Just trying to get a sense of what that team (and others in ECNL) will look like going ahead.

My DS from McLean not Union tried out for NVA made the first team. Honestly, he was a REC player not even close to your DS standard. Contact NVA your DS will definitely make 1st team.

REC player to NVA ECNL??? WTF

ECNL boys is a step down from MLS Next but I agree this looks off, I doubt this posters kid made the first team or NL squad

Nah- I would not call Achilles or Alexandria (MLS next) a step up from VDA, Richmond or Pipeline…(ECNL). DC United (MLs) Yes- but not the Next clubs

I agree. We are at an MLSNext club and we consider those clubs comparable. Just depends whether u want to play high school or not.

^This is not true. Especially for the 2010 Boys.

There are no SYC players on the union teams or really vice versa (just a handful). If a Union boy wants to go MLS Next and not play high school (U-15+) he’s going to Bethesda or Alexandria- not really SYC…. The clubs and practice fields are just too far apart geographically and also stylistically to really make that work. That said the partnership does have the boys teams practicing and scrimmaging each other if the coaches organize it.

It was so weird bc it happened right after the Celtic Union partnership. They chose the same exact name and colors, Celtic Union folded after 1 season bc of politics and greed as usual, VA Union still around but nobody knows what it is bc SYC is MLSNext on their own. It’s weird. Clubs think mergers and partnerships are best way to get best players and market to families but you have to deal with double the egos and double the number of people fighting to “be the man”.

No, SYC does not send players. Their best players go to MLS Next. We have a handful from SYC but they were on lower level teams.

Yep, on the boys side, the "alliance" between SYC and Mclean is a joke. No one wants to drive around the beltway when there are other clubs easier to get to from Springfield.

2010 is u14 this year. VA Union needs players. The few good ones they had last year left the team. If he is decent he could have a shot. No SYC players go to Union.
