Do you realized you’re responding to a thread that is two months old and where OP says the deadline is that day?

The verbal score seems very low especially given that this is kid’s strongest area usually. If we submit an application for the fall start and kid doesn’t get in, does it disadvantage kid in any way for reconsideration later this year? Should we not submit ?

Our DC got in with the same Verbal 113. GBRS is more important recently.

This is helpful thanks! If you don’t mind me asking, what was the type of writing sample you included? We didn’t have any from the school so I had to have kid recreate one but I don’t think I chose well.

Quant: 143
NV:123
V:118
Composite: 136

Those were my kid's scores - similar overall, but that 1 composite point goes from 98% to 99% overall. We provided an excellent home writing sample to substantiate the lower score there. The school provided samples were NOT good, but we got in regardless on the first try. I thought we were a borderline 50/50 chance and glad it worked out so I don't need to fight school every year to get included in advanced math like my earlier child with similar scores who didn't make it 1st try.

Ah ok,so helpful! Thank you. the application was due today so unfortunately I don’t think I did a great job doing what you suggested. However, kid’s iReady score for 2nd grade was in the upper 90’s so hopefully that helps.

Yes, I would definitely submit with those scores but I’d be sure to add info to support DC’s strong verbal skills. Do you have iready scores? Even better if you have multiple iready scores throughout the year that show your child consistently excels in this area. Do you have DRA score? FCPS no longer uses DRA but you might be able to submit it as another datapoint.

In the parent questionnaire, talk up DCs strength in verbal ability and support your claims w/ clear examples. I’d also include an excellent writing sample (or 2).

No, you won’t be at a disadvantage in next application cycle if your child doesn’t get in.

We just moved into FCPS. Kid took Cogat with short notice. Scores were:
Verbal 113 (72%)
Nonverbal 144 (99%)
Quantitative 132 (97%)
Composite 135 (98%)

The verbal score seems very low especially given that this is kid’s strongest area usually. If we submit an application for the fall start and kid doesn’t get in, does it disadvantage kid in any way for reconsideration later this year? Should we not submit ?
