I explained above. THey would have to add staff. Probably a supervisor and another one or two care givers. I should note that a lot of MsK and ATS extended day personel are at ATS so i think ATS doesn't have a long waitlist because of ATS hired the extra staff necessary to manage their demand.

Right. But the question is why is Cardinal's Extend Day program not able to hire more staff when other schools are able to if it's not a space issue.

It could be a space issue.

Interesting how some schools are able to have more staff hired and some are not.

We're at Cardinal and use the extended day program. Our friends who had a K student last year tried to sign up and they were #50 on the waitlist. This year, they're #5. So I don't think there's much hope for this year, but there is a possibility for next year.

OP, I have heard of other families at Cardinal who are trying to organize care through a co-op. There was also some chatter about extra staff (2 or 3) that will be hired which ultimately will move more families off the waitlist since it's not a space issue but a staffing problem they are facing.

For Cardinal to have no waitlist, they'd have to hire a supervisor (or a second one) and more staff but I think allocating an FTE to extended day is a decision that admin won't make for some reason. It's like he's waiting for the numbers to drop...but they never will.

Wow, I didn't realize waitlisted families get priority on registration the following year.

I believe current families get first priority, then previously waitlisted, then new families.

Thanks for that info - not at this school, but on a different waitlist and it's nice to know maybe we will have a chance next year.

We chose APS partly because of the SACC blood sport, waitlists are another sign of decline.

OP here -- we are at Cardinal. We are around 41 on the waitlist out of around 60.

Which school? Some are notorious for waitlists while others never have it. Something to consider when buying/renting. Waitlisted families get priority registration following year so hopefully just a 1 year problem.

New family to APS. What are we all doing when we have a Kindergartener that is on the waitlist for Extended Day and it doesn't seem likely they will get off the waitlist? Besides all the MMA programs that also have a waitlist for afterschool care, are there other options where kids are picked up and taken to an activity or center? Anyone else in the same boat right now? We are so excited for our DC to start K but did not anticipate how stressful the extended day process would turn out.
