You stay in hotels. My DH travels often and has found that joining one of the college clubs to stay in to be really great. So if you’re an alum of Yale, Harvard, and several other schools, you can stay at their club. Rooms are nice, restaurant is good and many other facilities like full gym too.

I’ve been doing it for 15 years but not always the same location. But work pays for 5 star hotels so it isn’t uncomfortable.

When I first started doing it, I had young kids at home so took the opportunity to go out and party when I was away. It was a lot of fun but I ended up feeling really unhealthy from too many fancy dinners and late nights.

I started finding CrossFit gyms to go to in the mornings when I travelled. It stopped me staying out late and kept me more focussed.

I think if I kept up that partying lifestyle I would now be an obese 50 year old with a range of health issues and probably a terrible relationship with my family and possibly divorced.

Frequent travel is grinding but there are ways to make it manageable.

I did it for 6 years, 4 days 5 nights a week. You get hotels and they should pay for it. When you have one you like and stay at constantly you can leave things like a toiletry bag there til your next trip. Bonus: you get points.

Find a hotel you like, and then stay there all the time - you'll make friends with them. They'll take care of you.

I have heard of apartment shares where you split the week but it takes some research.

Could work for someone who doesn't live in the apartment most of the time or just get an airbnb for the same nights each week and work out a deal with the owner.

Hotels like be the best option. And I find the Acela to be a pretty decent way to travel. There have been times I’ve gone to/from NYC each week for months at a stretch. Like all travel, it eventually gets old but it’s not too bad overall. I wouldn’t rule out the job for that reason.

I wouldn’t do this with kids. Starting a new job is tough enough then add travel like this? Sounds good in theory but doing it is not realistic unless money is that that good and you are ok to give up time with kids and lifestyle.

i have known a few people who have done this. One or two nights every week for a stretch. Sometimes employer paid for hotel, sometimes on employee (think faculty).
