Respectfully, this is an insane post. You are talking about whether she should be taking an AP exam a year from now, after she’s already been accepted to and decided on a college? It’s not like you’re going to take whether she gets AP credit in college for this course as a factor in deciding which school to attend, right? That would be even more huts. So who the hell cares? Just wait and see if the college she chooses gives the credit and decide then. You’re wasting a lot of energy on a very small issue. Land the helicopter man!

Because not all schools give credit for AP exams, and by the time OP’s kid takes the exam, she will know what school she’s attending and whether they take credit. If they don’t, taking it or not is totally about personal preference. Lots of kids don’t want/need that additional stress.

Meant to add - your kid will know which schools they are most likely to attend well ahead of the exam. Look up which credits will be accepted by each school and decide based on that. My kid got in ED and dropped several AP exams in the spring because the school either wouldn't take them or would only take a 5 and she knew that would be a long shot.

My daughter got credit for both - together they satisfied the intro English requirements. One counted toward a writing credit and one toward a lit credit.

Thank you for your responses. It looks like the best bet is to see where she's accepted and make the decision then.

My DS’s college gives credit for both both but it’s an open curriculum school so it’s not the same as schools where AP scores can meet a requirement

If I remember correctly, none of the schools my DC applied to this year would give credit for both AP Lang and AP Lit - I think all the schools would take one or the other (and it didn't matter which one) - Lang and Lit both secured the same credit, satisfied the same core course or same writing requirement. And, no school will ever know while you are applying whether you took the test or not. So - just look carefully at your DC's college list and double check - but it's my guess your DC can skip this second English AP exam

Yes. She took Lang as a junior and will take Lit this fall as a senior. The question isn't whether to take the class, but whether to take the test.

Also, something that came up on another forum I am on: someone posted that although their kid scored high enough on the AP exam to get credit for the standard freshman English class, his kid was going into the honors program, and the AP test doesn't count for the honors program English she was required to take.

Some universities will give the same credit if you take one or both of these classes and get 4 or 5 on exams.
