Boring as hell honestly, but sometimes that's what one needs. I prefer Hilton Head.

It just sounds gross to be going there from June-Sept and I can’t imagine it being exclusive at all during that time.

Fishers Island, Sconset, Old Newport yes, decamping to sweatville with mosquitos and mobs, absolutely not.

We are wealthy and spend our summers on Hilton Head. In the water or pool frequently. And if not in the water there js plenty to do that doesn’t require being in full sun.

Not really that much different temp or humidity than being in DMV.

Check out Isle of Palms. Less pretentious and closer to Charleston so you have a mix of beach and city attractions.

Mobs? Clearly you’ve never been to Kiawah. There’s a limit to the number of people on island at any given time. It never feels crowded even at peak season.

Not true. It’s full of old money southerners in the summers. When I was in college I was regularly a vacation nanny for one such family and it was full of other similar families.

Have you been?

We went in summer and there was always a breeze on the beach. It felt great. Off the beach, yes, really hot. But lots of shade and beautiful large trees.

Most people are out and about in the morning and evening if not on the beach. And there are no mobs on Kiawah. Even if every single rental is full, it is amazingly uncrowded.

If by pretentious you mean very expensive, then yes.

Amazing. Expensive. The water parks (esp. Night Heron) are worth it. Uncrowded beaches (in many stretches other people are 100 feet or more from you). If you want amenity access, make sure you rent from K.Island resort itself, or if you VRBO, the owner clearly states they have amenity cards available. Some of the rentals do not grant access and it's a big bummer for families to find out after they arrive.

It’s gorgeous. It’s a lot of old southern money and people who aspire to old southern money. And it’s a helluva drive from here - flying is highly recommended if you go.

It has elements of pretension but it is also really lovely and quiet. Great for tennis and bike riding. A small group of restaurants a short drive away that can get very crowded.

Of course it’s pretentious, but some people like that.
