In most boundary changes, there are only 50-70 kids moving period— equates out to about ten kids per grade. As a fifth grader that is very tough socially, especially since the middle school boundaries aren’t necessarily aligned. You could end up essentially switching friend groups twice in a two year period. That sucks.

What grade will your kids be? In past moves, some 5th graders were able to make the move to the new school. They try to minimize the number of school changes for 5th graders since they will be heading to middle school the following year.

Some parents would prefer to not move schools though. Especially if it's their youngest.

The elementary boundary process for that section of North Arlington will be triggered by the decision of making Nottingham Elementary a swing space.

The CIP says all of Zone 1 (Cardinal, Glebe, etc) will have a boundary process, btw- not just those most directly involved in the Nottingham decision

In general, there isn’t grandfathering when there are boundary changes.

For what grades? From my understanding, there is a MS boundary process now, and then an elementary boundary process (for at least all of Zone 1 - much of N Arlington) will start after they make the decision on the Nottingham swing space. Not sure how big the elementary process will be beyond zone 1

How do I find boundary maps for 2024/25 and also any proposed changes that might be in play after 2024/25?

Also is there grandfathering for kids who are already in school?
