OP here. Suppose I buy a 2013 Nissan Leaf with 50K miles. How much additional miles/years do you think I could get out of the battery? What checks can I run on the battery to make sure it is still strong? Is it sufficient to take the car for a very long test drive and make sure that I can get a lot of miles out of a single charge? Or are there additional checks that I should run on the battery?

The Smart ForTwo EV is no longer available from dealers in the U.S., but you can buy used ForTwo EV's. I'm considering this option because most of my driving is in the inner suburbs, and a typical roundtrip is less than 10 or 15 miles.

For those of you who own ForTwo electrics, I would be grateful if you can share your impressions of the car. Also, how many miles have you put on the car, and what range are you presently achieving with a full charge? Lastly, how long does it take to charge using a standard 110 volt outlet?
