Dog owner here. Yeah, no. It can be very difficult with certain dogs. Which is why MOST dog owners don't let their pets into stores... We're not going to compound the problem we know we have!

DC has allergies to dogs. Please leave dogs at home.

My dog only goes to PetSmart, where you should expect to see dogs. It’s a big deal for him because he doesn’t get to go other places.

I don't have a dog, and I like when a dog greets me in a store. But I get that many others don't

It's unsurprising that the people who train their dogs well are the same people who never bring them into stores: training a dog means you have thought carefully about what a dog should be allowed to do. The people who think it's okay for the dog to do whatever at home or on a walk, are of course also okay with the dog doing whatever in the store.

The amount of mysterious puddles and poop on the floor of stores is grotesque. Was in a store the other day, women walks into the store with her two dogs. They do their business on the floor and she just walks out. Doesn’t clean it up, say anything to the employees.

Uh. No. Just don't bring your dog into a store. If it's a legit service dog then it has the training. Otherwise it doesn't come in.

Which is why I don't bring my dog while shopping. He loves people and would mostly likely have the time of his life doing his welcome routine (which means sniffing everyone of you loudly and appreciatively).

If you insist on bringing your dog into a store, restaurant, supermarket, etc. PLEASE train them beforehand. They shouldn’t be approaching and sniffing people, especially children. They might not know what to do and it is potentially unsettling and unsafe. If your hands are busy with something else (which is likely in a store), just train your dog to sit next to you and not roam around. Isn’t that something animal trainers can help with?
