For IR, GW is probably the best academically. Georgetown still holds on to its old timey prestige. American is probably the most down to earth school.

For other majors, don't bother with any of them.

Yeah, this is ridiculous. One anecdote: Bill Clinton graduated from Georgetown in 1968 as a Rhodes scholar. GW was probably a commuter school back then. Georgetown has been elite forever.

I don’t know who straight up lied to you in the 80s. GWU was not then or ever the top ranked of the three. It’s never been top ranked at all. It’s a fine school, but there is no comparison between Georgetown and the other two.

GW and AU will have similar students who came for the DC experience.

Georgetown will have part of that, but more of the kids who wanted a top school or bust.

AU is still within the city limits - but it is not urban.

There os more likely going to be GW / Georgetown crossover but they have their own feel.

I went to American and did not apply to the other two. I liked AUs leafy spacious campus. No interest in GW campus. I was not interested in a Jesuit school either.I think it depends on if you are really focused on being in dc ( I was not) or just liked the schools for other reasons.

Do these schools attract the same type of students (academic profiles aside) essentially looking for a DC college experience? We are curious how the campus cultures differ socially, without getting into an academic debate.
