News= coverage. Coverage can help people find her. It is common for media to continue to run stories to keep certain issues front of mind. There is always a hook- interview a new friend, police update on leads, etc.

To your second point, I'm not sure I get your point. Are you saying that neither the family nor the police nor the community should be worried or trying to find this girl?
Would you be trying to find your child, and asking police and media to help, if they were 15, or 17, or 30?

This is a huge problem. Unrelated, but I recently returned from a work conference in Vegas and there are fliers posted in multiple languages everywhere offering help for trafficked women. It’s so sad.

I hope the WJ student is found safe and unharmed. Praying for her family.

They think she was lured on line and may be trafficking situation. So yes she left “voluntarily” but I fear her absence is no longer voluntary. I too am surprised no media attention. How can we get more publicity? I don’t have media contacts.

This is what I was thinking. Obviously doesn't make her any less in need of finding, but it means the "sexy" news story angle is lacking. Mentally ill teenager leaves home unexpectedly isn't a very catchy headline.

I have been following. The Mom's original FB post said they thought she ran away and was with a male. I think they know she left voluntarily but it has gone on so long now and she is so young. It must be terrifying. I pray she is ok and found soon.

I hope she is okay. Judging from the number of missing kid alerts that I randomly see from time to time, I'd say the vast majority do not make the news, especially if its a teenager (where people assume it's a runaway), or missing with a parent who doesn't have custody. The cases that make the news are the ones where a stranger kidnapping is suspected. 2 weeks is a long time for her not to return home, though. I hope she is safe.

It's also astounding to me how many reports of missing teens there are on the MCPD website. Most appear to be found within a few days, so I assume that they are mad at their parents and crashing with friends or another relative.


Everyone gave up. The latest article is a week old.

I'm aware of this because I received a MCPS alert. I don't know the girl but my kids go to the same high school. She's been missing for over 2 weeks -- no indication she's a runaway or anything.
