Nothing. DS hose a few STEM camps for his summer camps. He read at home. That was it. He did fine in fifth grade. We are taking the same approach for 6th grade. He did a few STEM camps, a few non-STEM camps, and is spending two weeks hiking and backpacking with his family.
If they aren’t completely, absolutely solid on their times tables, through the 12s, work on that in whatever way is best for your kid— games, flash cards, worksheets. 15s and 25s are also very helpful.
This wont help in the way of suggestions but every summer I buy my kids some kind of workbook for the upcoming year and every summer they complete roughly 1-5 pages. My rising 6th grader in AAP did great last year w/ no summer prep work. The only thing he does regularly is read, but that’s for personal enjoyment. He reads about 1-2 hrs daily.
If your child has an area of academic weakness that you’re worried about, I’d focus on that for summer work.
Just curious about what others have their 5th grade AAP children working on this summer to get ready for the upcoming school year? Any assistance or ideas are welcome!
