Do you work out?

I am 39 and have had 3 kids. My body is fit and firm (a small bit of extra skin on my belly from having big kids). I work out 4-5 times a week. Lifting weights or running. That doesn’t count walking the dog 2-3 times a day and running after said 3 kids all day.

Get in shape now. Easier to maintain in our 40s than trying to fix your body then.

Get it in check now because late 40s is WAY worse, and i assume late 50s will be exponentially worse.

You’re the one being obtuse. OP acts like this is just the body handed everyone as a surprise when they hit their late 30s. That’s not the case; your own actions and behaviors and choices help (notice I said help!!) determine the body you have at any age. OP can’t change the body they’re unhappy about if they don’t see that because ultimately their body can only change if their habits do as well.

I took up a physically intense sport when I was 38. Wound up being a great community and one of my favorite things but also keeps me in great shape. Find a new hobby that you love and that will kick your a#%.

Swimming is an amazing workout and low impact. Or, if there was a sport you enjoyed as a kid, consider getting back into that (perhaps in a modified form).

So change it. This is not a late 30s body. Im 38 and to be honest, I saw this type of thing coming back when I turned 30. I had been effortlessly “skinny” my whole life without any real muscle definition or discipline habits and I just knew if I didn’t develop those I would be hitting 40 in a similar position- gaining weight and seeing my body change in ways I didn’t like but would have a hard time changing agar that point. So I started a fitness routine and have consistently challenged myself to keep growing and I became a more healthful eater with better habits and I made daily movement a part of my character - not something I make myself do anymore. Just a part of who I am.

It’s not too late for you to do this either. But the first step is to stop saying this “is a late 30s body.” It’s the body you created. Your habits and efforts help create the body you have. If you want a different one, build different habits.

It might be a late 30s body. I’m in my mid-40s and that is what my body is doing in perimenopause. It was basically overnight. My friend was in a similar situation but at 39. Have your periods/mood/sleep also changes?

That’s not a late 30s body. That’s you. But if you want to improve things before menopause hits in 10-15 years, this is a great time to start.

Diet, exercise, wear clothes that fit and flatter.

You’re still youngish; you may have to work harder at it than you did in your 20s but you can be fit.

That is not a “late 30s” body. My late 30s early 40s was/is the best shape I’ve ever been in my life. If you do nothing you’re gonna get nothing in return.

I am round and my waist is fat. My arms are flabby and chubby. I am an apple that’s become bigger.

I used to be so petite effortlessly
