Fwiw- I chatted with j crew and they told me that stores are not authorized to accept returns beyond 30 days. They did let me mail the return back (minus $7 for return shipping) and I’ll get store credit. Sucks to pay for return shipping but at least saves me a trip and having to plead my case at the store.

They've been strict when I've tried to bring to a store. 30 days is tight to not even get store credit.

A good strategy May be to bring something else up to the register you’d like to buy. Try the return first. They may be nicer that way

Depends who you talk to, but if you are polite and aren't a known serial returner, there's a good chance they'll let you do it.

What's annoying is that they totally can do it... if they want to. I've had really nice associates process the return and others reject me. Try to get the most pleasant associate at the register.

NP. I did not get store credit - it had tags and I had the receipt. I was not upset. I won’t wait that long again.
