...that's why we built a home with 5-car garage. Three attached and 2-car detached (which is also cooled and heated). Im a car enthusiast so protects my two classic cars and its just so much nicer on a daily basis to get into a vehicle that neither too hot or cold.

Yes! We were looking at a few different places, and ended up buying the one with the garage for non-garage-related reasons.

Well, I’m a believer. I LOVE OUR ATTACHED GARAGE. It is so, so pleasant to be sheltered from the weather the second I step out of the car, and to never have to scrape a windshield. I mean, I could live without it, but in my initial assessments, I gave having an attached garage little weight. Now, after having lived with it, I would give it significant weight.

Next up: my emotions towards our main floor powder room.

Same. Didn’t grow up with a garage, lived in urban environments for years, so never understood when I read real estate threads and people prioritized garages.

Then we moved to the burbs, complete with a two-car garage, and damn if I don’t express my gratitude for that thing on a regular basis. But yes, I do think it helps preserve the car, though I couldn’t quantify that. All I know is that unlike when I was parking on city streets, the bumpers still look flawless.

The dealer's service department sometimes comments that it's obvious my car is mostly garaged, because of the condition of the paint.

Using your garage also reduces the chances of the car being broken in to, and for the garage door opener to be used to gain access to the house.

Anecdotal only. I have always parked outside. We just moved into a house that has a garage and I use it religiously. My tires seem like new, even though I am putting similar mileage on them year to year. I have wondered if keeping them out of the elements, and especially the cold and possibly harsh sunlight, have helped extend their life. Otherwise, I have no idea why these tires seem to be lasting almost twice as long. They are all the same tires.

I park outside. Our garage is a woodshop.

Current car is 8 years old, last one was 15 years old when I sold it. No issues with paint or interior. And I park outside at work, so even if I used a garage at home it would still be outside for the 8-10 hours per day with the most sunlight 5 days a week. Modern materials are pretty durable.

A few cars ago, I did get some hail damage, but that was from an afternoon thunderstorm while I was at work.

I can see the argument for not having to scrape ice and snow, though. That would be nice!

My Honda odyssey doesn’t fit in my garage I have looked into converting it into a 2 car, 1 door garage. But currently I have a 2 door, 2 car garage. My garage is big too but the doors aren’t

One situation that is bad for your car is if there is road salt/ice melt on or caked under your car and it’s cold outside — parking it in a heated garage will dramatically accelerate the rusting action vs. out in freezing temps.

Wish I could but I have too much junks in my garage. No space for cars.

+ a million. I love my garage more than life itself for these very reasons. Not to mention just being able to take things in and out without going outside. When I see house with perfectly good garages and the cars are parked outside, I wonder why. I mean, throw some stuff out once in a while! Buy a shed!

+ 1 billion
Why buy a house with a garage if you are not going to use to park your car? And these people use their garage to store junk.

Parking outside can cause interior materials to age or weaken quickly, and can also damage the paint and clear coat

How much does parking in a garage vs outside save your car in wear and tear?
