Nanny of 15 years, mom of 2 with a nanny, and nanny agency owner here. I'm saying this all kindly to set realistic expectations.

Your best bet will be Facebook groups, neighborhood listservs, or care/sittercity.

You should provide a car and add them to your car insurance. You cannot reasonably expend a young adult who only works part time to have a car, fully up to reliability and safety standards.

You should plan to pay $30-35hr. You will not retain anyone for less.

Just prepare yourself to likely go through multiple candidates in a year. That way, if you do like most people do, you won't be surprised. If you end up retaining someone, you can be that much more happy about it.

There have been a million posts about this over the years. Do a search for more details, but, you are going to either have to provide full time hours OR up the hourly rate so they are basically making full time. It's unlikely you'll find a student that wants to do this on the cheap. If you do, they won't be reliable because their schedule changes frequently.

We are interested in hiring a college student or recent graduate to help with shuttling our two kids (preteen and early teen) to and from school and afterschool lessons & practices, and occasional light errands outside the house, while we are both still working (one of us from home on most days), in the 230-630pm window from Monday-Thursday. We're located in Arlington. At least 2 hours of a 4 hour shift on an average day would be waiting/downtime when the driver could study.

We're not sure where to start though - for anyone here who is doing this or has done this, would welcome guidance on:

a) How did you find the person that you hired?
b) Did they use their car or your car?
c) How much did you pay them? Hourly or weekly rates?
d) How did you handle payment/taxes/insurance, etc?
e) Anything else we should be thinking about?
