I wouldn’t miss either of those for a girls trip.

Have you talked to your kid about camp dropoff? Or what the process is? My kids would be so sad if I missed pick up b/c they give you a tour, you meet their counselors, see where they did everything, meet their friends, eat & go to the shop. Drop off - meh, you literally pull up and they get out of the car. Lots of kids fly and are picked up at the airport. Drop off is a non-event and my kids never want me to go. It also makes my 10 year old daughter a lot sadder if I am there to say goodbye.

I think girls trips are dumb. Team take your kid.

Doesn’t your kid have two parents? If you don’t think the kid can handle being dropped off at camp by one parent the kid probably shouldn’t be going to camp at all.

How often do you do friend trips? Sometimes there is way too much pressure to hit every one. Also big birthday trips are sort of ridiculous in hindsight.

I can’t imagine skipping out on my kid’s birthday, the day that’s supposed to be special for him, because I’d rather spend time with my friends, and my friends wouldn’t want me to. While birthdays can be celebrated on another day, the day itself is pre-scheduled. He is the prior commitment. Presumably a girls weekend can be scheduled anytime.

Unless one of the girlfriends is near death and this is your last chance to say goodbye, why would you even consider it?

I wouldn’t miss a birthday. I’d trust their other parent to manage camp drop off. I’d be sure to video call if there is service.

If it’s a matter of missing a day of the trip and catching up later, I might just meet everyone later. But I don’t have a girl’s trip FOMO either, so there’s that

No I would not miss the bday. I would let DH handle camp drop off. 10 is a big bday though to skip.

If this was a rare or special occasion, I would miss both. We can celebrate the birthday (family party) before / after my weekend away and other parent can do camp drop off and run friend party on day of birthday.

I would miss a birthday, would only miss sleep away camp if I was able to get her packed up and ready to go (e.g. I was leaving the day before or day of). I do not trust my husband to get a kid packed properly for sleep away camp.

How does your kid feel about it? That would inform my answer.

My dad missed every birthday when I was in elementary school for a bowling tournament for his league. It bothered me a lot, but if it had just been one year and not EVERY year, I probably would have been fine with it.

I wouldn't miss dropping my kid at camp for the first time.

I have said I cannot miss these for girls weekend with close friends in Europe. Just checking I’m not being overly myopic.
