Robotic anesthesia will reduce that lucrative niche don’t count on same money in future.

Absolutely and if later they want to pivot they can.

My friend is a nurse who makes over six figures, but her stress level is through the roof, mainly because of the hospital administration. She loves her job other than that.

It has a huge burn out rate. I think if they become an NP straight away maybe.

I'm an RN. DC is an RN. Nursing is a vocation. Not a job. If your child is looking for a job- look elsewhere.
Flexibility in types of work and areas of work are good.
I'm proud of being a nurse. And proud of my DC for being a damn good nurse.

I would not encourage it for my child. Low pay.

Eh.. don't do it. Pay is low for the work involved and admin always sh*ts on you.

Employment security is a given, which is a plus. Most nurses don't make over six figures, though, so recognize the income limitations. Exceptions are those with advanced practice credentials or those in administrative roles, which many nurses do not seek out; those who are nurse practitioners and CRNAs are outliers in the wider field in terms of income. The job can be physically demanding, and some roles require scheduling flexibility, i.e., nights/weekends.

I think it can be a good job for a child who wants it, but it’s also a very hard job. I think it has to be something that the child wants to do. If the child has the temperament and desire for it, there’s a lot of opportunity.

Excellent career path. My sister is a CRNA and can work whatever days she wants (usually about 2-3 weeks a month), has the ability to make lots of overtime and makes about $250k a year in a lcol area.

Is she susceptible to being bullied by other nurses? To me, that would be the biggest drawback in the field of nursing. I've heard and read and seen that nurses "eat their own," which means they don't tend to mentor or coach new nurses. They give them the toughest patients, toughest assignments.

I know it's not the typical DCUM path - TJ, Ivy, Big Law But for an average kid, what do you think? Thanks!

Its an excellent path, less expensive and easier to accomplish than medicine but as rewarding if you want a purpose in life.

It seems like everyone in nursing is fleeing nursing right now.

That said, those jobs aren't going anywhere and the shortage of qualified people drives up salaries. But it can be pretty frustrating unpleasant work as $#%^ rolls downhill in medicine and the nurses are not at the top.

I think it's an excellent career path. Good money, flexibility, always in demand, (if want) become NP...etc. I'd support my kid.
