Of course you plateau. Then it takes even harder work. You can't poo poo around for 3 weeks an expect results. only after 16-18 weeks can you barely see results..after 1 year you start to get strong. After 2 really, really strong.

This is extreme. 1 year is a really long time, and a timeline I have not personally experienced - I'm a woman over 50. We're all genetically different, and there are way too many variables involved to give a reliable answer. If your diet is in check, if you're getting good sleep, and if you're lifting heavy enough and often enough it will take a lot less than 1 year to "get strong".

Maybe it has to do with genetics, or a history of being athletic? I took years off of doing weights. Obessed with running and told myself I didn't have time. I have made the time over the past few weeks--starting light with the Caroline G. videos, and honestly, I can see and feel a difference already. As I said, I was an athlete and worked out my whole life, so maybe I bounce back more quickly? Also not overweight, does that help? I just cannot believe a year. I think you'd have to be coming from zero at that point.

It is very genetic. It took me 2 months of cross fitting for my arms to look like I work out, but you also need to consider the pump from regular exercise which makes the muscles look larger than they really are. However, my legs still do not look muscular after more than a decade of lifting despite being able to squat and deadlift well over 200lbs at a body weight of 145 and doing a mix of powerlifting and hypertrophy oriented training.

I’m 58 and people started commenting after 6 months. I do Caroline Girvan programs off YouTube and now her app. 4 x per week. I was a gymnast throughout HS and show muscle quickly.

The hardest part is often just sticking to your program. I met with a personal trainer twice a week and did strength training. I met an old friend after about a year and they were impressed.

+1

It took me about 8-9 months to get strong after an injury. You just have to put in the work everyday and it will show sooner or later. Key is to not give up!

Get some kettle bells. Lots of functional fitness there to be had and it works surprisingly well.

Years. I got somewhat serious 4 years ago and also box which helps and I’m looking more toned now but still not as defined as I want.

You also would want to focus doing programming aimed at aesthetics. I do powerlifting, and I am pretty strong, but I would look more muscular if I did not focus on very low reps of very heavy weights. Doing this form of lifting *has* made me more muscular, but a lot of gaining strength is neurological and isn't about getting bigger muscles.

It depends a lot on genetics too. It doesn’t take much for me to have toned arms but I know for others it takes much longer. That said, make sure u focus on lifting heavy weights. Less reps but as heavy as u can manage to do at least 3 sets.
