An excellent question. But two reasons for our family are (1) kids are almost done with school and it's not worth an unnecessary uprooting at this point in their lives; and (2) proximity to work. Once both of those reasons no longer pertain, we'll probably relocate.

Yes, if I had to estimate I'd say that 10-15 people on the APS threads post 95% of the comments. They are also on AEM, at the school board meetings and calling the principals.

Everyone I know is incredibly happy in Arlington. But the loud ones are loud, I think that’s true anywhere. But particularly when you have so many Big Career people yelling in a small county.

Are there any non-white people in Loudon?

Yeah, most thought schools were decent and needed short commute for demanding jobs.

Loudoun is great if you work in Reston tech corridor or WFH. Or have a SAHM.

Why wouldn't you want to live in Arlington?
I love it here. For the most part, the people are highly educated but not snobby at all. They are fun and like to hang out and be social. We have great parks for little kids, it's fairly walkable and schools are decent.

A relatively small percentage of parents in Arlington are WAY overinvolved with what the schools are doing. Lots of type As live here, pining for their student government days, and feel that every single choice must be done by committee.

The remainder of us shrug at them.

This. We decided a long time ago that the time with our kid in the mornings and evenings was our biggest priority. We moved here before the silver line opened so it seemed like Arlington was the best option. Then I started working for APS and having the same schedule makes life so much less stressful.

If I had to do it again, I wouldn’t. But my kids are in high school and it’s not worth the financial hit to move. But if you’re considering it—chose FCC or near-in McLean for schools. The commute is a little rougher but the schools are better and there ARE alternatives to single family homes if you look.

Arlington is a rapidly growing county so I would also guess there are more boundary changes and upheaval than what is happening in LCPS. People get really mad about that stuff.
