My daughters LOVED their pottery barn mini backpacks at that age. I put their snacks and water bottle in it.

It looks bigger in the pictures, but my son went to an outdoor preschool where he carried his backpack to and from school, around school to different areas, and on hikes etc starting at 2.5 and he used this backpack (and still does at 5). At 2.5 it fit far better than many others at that age and has the chest clip which helps (and they love).

Went to target and had my kid pick out a small backpack in the back to school section. The toddler size one. It was fine, he could carry his water bottle to and from school.

18m is going to be hard for this. We got my kid a Pottery Barn mini backpack around this age, and the pack size was right, but the straps didn't adjust enough to be snug.

I got my daughter one of the little fashion ones that are meant to be a teenager's purse at that age, just used rubber bands to shorten the straps and it fit her little body perfectly. She loved it.

If they want a backpack, the little kid ones are fine as long as you tighten the straps and they aren’t heavy. Personally I’d rather just buy one so that’s what I’d do. I love the llbean ones.

My 18 mo DD has recently gotten into carrying bags, including trying to carry her daycare bag even though it is too big/heavy for her. I was thinking about getting her a little backpack and little play purse. I figured she could take the backpack to/from daycare with her. Many of the toddler backpacks seem geared towards 3-4 yo. Any recommendations for one that a younger toddler could easier carry around?
