Can someone explain to me how swimmers are picked for Divisionals? My son barely made A meets all summer (sometimes he did and sometimes he didn't depending on who was in town), so I assumed that there was no chance he would swim since he couldnt make the top 3 swimmers, let alone the top 2. But we were told he is an alternate. Do teams have 3 levels deep of alternates? Are there different rules for the number of events a person can swim at Divisions vs a typical A meet? Isn't it just the top 2 kids in each event? He's no where close to that.

We bought ours from a company on Fairfax. It’s stamped on the back of the boards. When I am down at the pool I’ll try to remember to look.

Thank you! I’ve been baffled by how difficult they are to track down.

Ok. I checked. The label says MC Services Incorporated, Fairfax
703-352-1711

Thank you so much!!

Anonymous wrote:what is this "time board"? At our MCSL meets, there's a runner who gets the sheets at the end of the event from all the lanes, and then they bring it to automation. Then after they've been entered and checked, automation prints out the results and they get taped up somewhere nearby.

They are boards that hang above each lane at the timers’ end. They typically have wheels that are adjusted to show the swimmer’s time.

I feel like the vast majority of them are homemade.

What are these roles? I’m good with doing 99% of roles but I’ve never seen these listed before.

Thanks-

I wonder if time board timer is just the timer responsible for changing the numbers on the board ? I’ve never seen it listed as a separate job, but when I have timed there are usually three separate jobs: one person write the times on the time card, one verifies the swimmer’s name , and one changes the time board. Depending on the setup, it might be better if the time board person is somewhat tall or it can get uncomfortable.

It is this.

I’d agree it’s the person who puts up the time on the board(s). We have this job at our pool for 8 and under events because the boards are on the opposite end of the pool from their finish. A runner brings the cards to the volunteer who puts up the times. At pools where they allow the 25 m events to dive from the shallow end you don’t need this as the lane timers can do it themselves.

Not sure about time board timer. But for assistant place recorder, this is our pool’s description of the role for A meets (I assume it’s the same at divisionals)

“ Resolve discrepancies in the time cards with the Chief Timer or the Referee; record disqualifications (DQ’s) when received from the Referee; determine the order of finish and write it on the time cards; check for NVSL Records and mark the time card appropriately.”
