The heavy-weight command strips will hold up to 20 lbs. I checked and standard white boards 60"x36" and 48"x48" weigh about 15 lbs. 60"x48" was 23 lbs, so anything less than 5'x4' and your kid will be fine with command strips. I doubt anyone wants a white board that big in their small dorm room.

Light weight option that we use at home.
Sheet protector with a piece of paper in it.
We use it for daily to dos and can slide in different pages as we need to.

My college junior absolutely uses white boards. One is a calendar and the other is a to do list. Both at home and in the dorm, they’re held up by heavy duty Command strips.

The Command Strips that are Velcro will hold a white board. Another option if your white board is too big/heavy. Is to get a lightweight poster frame. Open the frame and flip over the paper insert so that the white side is showing under the plexiglass. A dry erase marker will write on the plexi just like it is a white board. A Clorox wipe will erase the marker easily.

You will need to use 3M command strips or hooks. Kid's college doesn't allow nails or holes on walls. Another solution is to stick a large blank poster on wall and use stick post it notes on them for the reminders.

You won't be allowed to do that to the wall. Agreed on Command strips, but the board itself better be small and light. There also used to be metal traction anchors designed to kind of clip onto cinderblock, but I don't know if they exist anymore or ever worked very well.

Also, if DC has a roommate, they might not want their personal reminders out there in the open like that anyway...

Thanks. Are the command strips sold with both parts? (Confirming we don’t need to buy a white board with Velcro on the back.)

My son uses a white board in his bedroom at home to write reminders to himself of what is going on each day. I have no idea if he’ll keep up the habit while in college but I figure good for him to have the ability to do so.

I’m guessing there is a simple answer to this but I haven’t been in a college dorm room in over 30 years. Assuming standard cinder block walls, how would you hang a white board on a dorm wall? I know command hooks or that sticky putty are used to hang posters, flags, etc, but a white board is too heavy for the putty and I can’t picture how you’d use hooks to hang a white board (we have several white boards at home and there is a picture hanger on that back of each that hangs off a nail in the wall). Thanks in advance for the advice.
