I’d been thinking two of my three votes for at-large would be for Ilryong Moon and Saundra Davis. Both seem to focus on issues and not on publicizing their gender identity or sexual preferences. Not sure about the third vote but likely not McDaniel.

Kyle McDaniel ran as a common-sense, moderate alternative to Laura Jane Cohen and Elizabeth Schultz in the Springfield District in 2019 and lost.

Now he’s tacked far-left and even rebranded his sexual preferences to appeal to the Karl Frisch crowd. His entire campaign has focused on criticizing Glenn Youngkin and promoting LBGTQ (and especially trans) causes; conversely, he hasn’t engaged at all on matters relating to FCPS academics or operations.

It all feels too opportunistic and “snatched from the playbook” for me. And it’s not like there isn’t going to be LBGTQ representation on the SB. The Democrats already have at least two other LBGTQ candidates (Frisch and Robyn Lady, a lesbian running for the Dranesville seat) this fall.

Think I’ll pass on McDaniel until he settles down and figures out who he is and what he actually stands for.
