Tray ceilings look dated to me, but I have an old house with original coffered ceilings and like them a lot

We've repainted them and it's fine. The coffered ceiling is quite pretty. The only tray ceiling left to be updated is in the master bedroom, which is last on our list to re-do. I want to do tin tiles on the ceiling in the inset when we get around to it.

How much did it cost you to remove the tray ceilings?

We didn't remove them. We just repainted them, as part of other interior repainting. I don't think it's worth the money and mess to fuss with taking them out, they don't bother us that much.

I like them. Used correctly with the right proportion, various coffered ceiling designs can really enhance a home’s design.

I admit I like the trend of soft lighting on the perimeter of tray ceilings. I don’t know what it’s called but it’s in contemporary homes.

To me they look very 90s macmansion, unless you live in a real mansion that has been custom built and decorated by an interior designer.

What are you thoughts on coffered ceilings and tray ceilings? I think they are dated and often make the room actually looks smaller not bigger.
