Ew, never.

Just cook it separately and stir it in after.

Slow-cooked broccoli is grayish green, drab, mushy, and smells like sulfur. This is what turns people off cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, etc. Steam, saute, or roast the broccoli and serve it on the side rather than putting it into the crock-pot.

I'd never add broccoli. Just Sautee in a pan with olive oil for 5 minutes or so (frozen).

I wouldn’t put it in the Crockpot unless you’re ok with smelly broccoli mush. Just chuck the broccoli into a pan on the stove top, cover, and cook for a couple minutes. Uncover, test, and cook to your liking.

+1. I use my crockpot a lot but would never consider putting broccoli into it.

It's gonna make your kitchen smell like a big fart.

I would have no concerns and would put them in at the time the recipe calls for fresh.

I do share the PP's personal preference in favor of crispier broccoli although we have different paths towards that goal.

We like broccoli to retain a small amount of crisp. When using frozen broccoli, I find i best to microwave it for 2.5-3 min so that it is hot but still has some crisp. Then I add it a minute or so before I serve and stir it in.

I’m making a quick crockpot meal and it called for broccoli. I forgot fresh broccoli but I have frozen florets. At what point should I add them, and should I thaw, or even heat, them first?
