There's medical studies about essential oil like Peppermint, and surely Minoxidal. So some topical things must work at least a little. If you go oil, add a drop to shampoo glob, not conditioner or you'll regret. And I'd only use Doterra or Young Living, not store bought junk.

I've had 3 post-traumatic hair loss events. I'm in the beginning of one now. Last time, it stopped after taking a multivitamin + Z-stack for 2 weeks. My best guess was the zinc in the Z-stack did it, but not sure.

I tried serums without any change. The Nutrafol supplement helped though.

I've wondered this too. I had to stop watching my favorite lifestyle YouTuber when she started shilling for Vegamour -- overnight her channel was nothing but videos of her pointing at her hairline and saying "Look! Little hairs! Growing!" I've always wondered if it is a scam or not.

Do any of those hair growth serums advertised on social media work?

Does anything work? I just turned 40 and I used to have such thick hair. I had my third child two years ago and my hair didn’t rebound from postpartum hair loss.
