I have talked to neighbors in Arlington. These are educated professionals and they express genuine fear that a republican could materialize and get on the board. Like they actually say this with fear. It’s so bizarre to encounter. No amount of logic or common sense can convince them they are over reacting.

Sounds like DCUM in a nutshell.

Why would they use ranked choice voting in the fall? It's Arlington. The real contest is the primary.

Stop making a deal out of nothing.

Why wouldn’t they use it after making a big deal about how well it worked in the primary? There’s no reason not to continue using it.

A Republican in 2023 is scary.

Whilst I mostly agree with this statement, not in Arlington. I always vote for Dems in national elections, but I have even voted for Clement in Arlington County local elections. Boss Tweed has nothing on the Arlington County Dems. Very disappointed in this decision - even though I ranked neither of the winners in the recent CB election.

I've been active in local (Dem) politics in a number of cities and agree 100% with this. I also have voted for Clement as a protest vote and will continue to seek out independent and even R candidates.

As opposed to republican strongholds implementing ranked choice voting?

Ok, fair.

Establishment going to protect itself.

Doesn't change the disappointment and bad governance....
