Op here.

I was surprised it was successful as I was nervous I’d do something wrong. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed the opportunity to socialize and have some sweets and tea.

I served Fortnum and Mason’s Russian Caravan tea and my guests appeared to be delighted. I also had chocolate and blueberry scones, crème brûlée madeleines, chocolate croissants, dark chocolate and almond wafers, cucumber and egg salad finger sandwiches, and a selection of Persian pastries.

It was sumptuous!

We went to one at the Rockville mansion in the spring put on by a friend of a friend. The clotted cream on the scones were delicious and my kid loved having cakes/scones for dinner that day.
Glad you enjoyed it OP

I assume she meant she sampled all of the sweet treats like petits fours or little cookies or cakes.

That is awesome.

(Based on the subject line, I have to ask -- did you host a lot that were unsuccessful? What happened? Guests fighting over the earl grey? A disaster with clotted cream? Unpredictable scones?)

Wonderful, OP! I've done a few tea parties. What did you serve? Did you make the food yourself, and if not, did you find a place?
Since I'm very picky, I usually do everything, but that means I can't host too many guests at once. My local stores don't have the right type or size of finger sandwiches, and the baked goods are way too large and sweet.

I had so much sugar but the scones and pastries were delicious. Everyone had a grand time!
