I’m a fed and make almost 200k plus bonuses, have 26 days of vacation (over 15 years of service), work a 40 hr week on interesting topics and for a mission I believe in. Telework a lot too. I mean what’s not to like/want? My work life balance is pretty amazing - I work out regularly, am super present for my kids, etc. I’m not making as much as ppl I know who r in private companies but I’m definitely the least stressed and fulfilled.

That said, I’ve worked at 3 agencies and my current gig is the most functional and competent I’ve worked at so that def makes a difference. It can be a hit or miss.

Yeah we don’t do fundraising except for admin day (gift for secretaries)

The work tends to be interesting, and the benefits are great.

Only gs 15s or maybe GS14s if you’re at the very top steps (which take a decade to get to)

Post retirement health insurance for you and (even after you die) your spouse; job security; pension; work/life balance; and reasonably okay pay

It's hard to get fired so it's easy to slack and still get paid.

It’s funny because some people on these boards turn their noses up at federal pay. Other people claim Feds make too much.

The reason people want the jobs is for stability (very difficult to be laid off or fired), and they offer a pension, although it’s not as good of a deal as it used to be.

I’m a fed and I don’t understand it either. It annoys me that people are in it for the benefits and just to coast by like it’s welfare. It’s not the reality at my agency. I’m so glad my coworkers aren’t coasting.

Good pay + benefits. Easy to slide by under the radar.

Job security is the main draw.

This job board seems dominated by federal government workers and people trying to get such a job. Obviously, I know that we’re in the DMV and there a lot of such jobs, but what’s the attraction? Some people claim to have been trying for YEARS to get an agency job. Why not just move on? Why the obsession with a government job?
