(Not OP). Oh my god this is what I need to do (to lose 5 lbs from my current 118 lb, 5 ft frame) and I think it is insane! I am giving myself 2 months but I don’t know how to do it! Unfortunately I can only fit in semi-regular not-super-intense workouts, but the thought of only 1200 calories a day makes me want to bury my head in sand. Preferably ice cream sand.

It helped when I realized that the portions I’ve received since birth aren’t meant for me. I’m not average height and don’t need the same amount of food as someone who is. Trying to reframe that has been helpful when dishing up food at home and when I eat at a restaurant. It doesn’t take super long for your body to adjust.

What is a challenge is to go below that, into a deficit, in order to lose weight. So, just know that once you do get past these couple months, if you generally can reframe and eat what your body needs, you’ll be able to maintain.

I am 46yo 5’7 at 175lb and I was told to eat 1600 to loose weight but it’s been 2 weeks and I lost nothing. Not sedentary but not actively exercising either. Walking around the house, doing errands etc

Curious if it’s just my slow metabolism or is it normal.

2 weeks might be too early to see any results. I know for me it can take 3-4 weeks to see a difference on the scale when I make dietary changes. Then after that it starts steadily decreasing. Don't let that discourage you, just keep pushing.

And if you're not exercising you might have to drop that a little lower. Or at the very least, aim to get at least 10-15K steps per day, preferably on the higher end of that range.

I am PP. Actually my resting daily calories is closer to 1100. Bumped it up to 1200 through trial and error, the most calories I can eat to maintain current 115.

I count calories and macros on an app. I no longer snack and just eat my calories at meals. I found snacking, even with healthy stuff like nuts made me crave food. So my daily meals look like:

Black coffee
Breakfast 2 egg omelette - 180 cal
Lunch Salad (no meat) - 300 cal
Dinner - a protein with vegetables and a 1/3 cup rice - abt 500 cal
A 120ish alcoholic drink.

Of course when I work out, I’ll eat more, usually more at lunch or dinner. Usually fruits or more rice. And no, I’m not starving. As you can see from the above, I don’t have much, if any added sugars.

I’m 5’7” and I eat 1650 while doing heavy weightlifting 3x per week and 1.5 hours of light cardio (jogging, biking) 2x per week. If you’re not working out, you should probably be closer to 1450.

I had the analysis done at my doctor’s office: resting metabolism 1500, with daily activity 2700. I was shocked my resting was so low. I am 5’8” and 190 lbs (recently lost 25 and have 25 to go).

I had similar stats OP and lost a pound a week (7 pounds so far) limiting to 1360 calories per day. It was a pain to track calories but showed how mindless snacking after the kids are down is my downfall.

5'4" started 160lbs, now 140. Did it by cutting to 1520 calories and counting macros and it took 5 months
120 protien
147 carbs
52 fat.
The ONLY way I could do this was by weighing every single thing I put in my mouth My husband was a little condescending asking if I was going to bring a scale when we went out to dinner with friends. We rarely did that as getting my covid weight off was a priority.

I've been able to maintain weight for past 2 months not counting calories but am very mindful what I eat. Lots of veggies and protien. And I still track my protien because that is the easiest to slide. I strength train 1 hour, 4 days week and want to keep muscle. At my age (59) I don't kid myself that I will build much, but dont' want to loose. Muscle burn calories faster (or more efficiently, can't remember.)

How many calories other people eat is irrelevant. So many factors go into how many calories your body needs and burns, you can’t compare. You just have to watch the scale and adjust your calories accordingly. If you’ve been eating 1600 calories for 2 weeks and lost nothing, try 1400 and increase your activity some. Give a couple weeks and see how your body responds.

Are you tracking really, really carefully? Measuring, weighing every single thing? Every day of the week? More than likely you're not accurately counting absolutely everything 7 days/week.

I don't track closely, but I probably average 2000 calories to maintain my weight (115 pounds, 5'4, 51). I lost a good chunk of weight (35 or 40 pounds?) a few years back and also didn't track closely, but was probably around 1500-1600 calories then. I do a brisk inclined five mile walk in the evening most days and some work with weights but no heavy lifting. I did not weight myself a lot while trying to lose - i knew it would drive me crazy to see no progress so I just kept at it and only got on the scale when I was pretty sure there was a change.

I feel like cutting out processed foods helped me a lot. I eat a lot of fruit, nuts, yogurt, poultry, eggs, veggies and whole grains and a little bit of dark chocolate.

I weigh more than you do and wouldn't lose weight at 1700 cal per day. I have to average below 1500 for real, sustained weight loss. Probably more like 1300 a day. It's not easy. Not for me anyway.

I am 48, 5'4". I wanted to lose 10 lbs (go from from 137 to 127), and the only way I was able to do it was by eating 1200 calories a day, plus a half hour of active exercise in addition to walking around or doing errands. It is TOUGH to lose weight in middle age.

If you know, what is your daily calorie range to maintain weight?
