Dear Parents/Guardians,
Based on FCPS criteria, your student qualifies to take Algebra 1 Honors in Grade 7 and they have been placed in that math course. You may confirm this placement by logging onto StudentVUE or ParentVUE and selecting ‘Course Requests’.
If you wish for your student to remain enrolled in Math 7 Honors instead, complete this form by Monday, July 24, 2023. Please note that Math 7 Honors is Prealgebra and is not a repeat of Math 6 Advanced. Students who opt to take Math 7 Honors in 7th grade may take Algebra 1 or Algebra 1 Honors in 8th grade.
FCPS Eligibility Criteria for Algebra I Honors in Grade 7
1. Successful completion of Advanced Math 6 (Math 7 curriculum)
2. 91% or above on the IAAT Assessment
3. 500 or above on the Math 7 SOL
Factors to Consider
Algebra 1 Honors is a high school level course and will become part of the student’s high school transcript
Students entering Algebra 1 Honors should have strong pre-algebra skills and a desire to be challenged in math
