Mileage is not enough as children make a mess in cats with food, muddy shoes and dirt in general.

I’m a nanny and I’m happy to use my personal vehicle if you’d like to pay the car note and the insurance in addition to my salary. If not it’s not worth the wear and tear and the 60 cents per mile constantly having to keep car seats in my personal vehicle.

I was a Nanny years ago and started out using my own car. Once the kids got older though and wanted friends to tag along or to carpool places it was a problem. If you have 3 kids already, at some point nanny may have extra kids, I would leave her a van to use during the day.

With 3 kids I would leave her your largest car to use and get a commuting car for yourself.

My nanny doesn't have a pod car because I pay her $72,000 a year.

Is her car big enough to transport 3 kids safely?

Are any of your kids still in car seats? Moving the car seats from your car to her car each day can be a pain, and I think it's a really big ask to have her keep the car seats in her car in the after hours/weekends.

Most nannies HIGHLY prefer to not use their personal vehicle for work. With 3 kids, it's even less common because the nanny may have a small car, 2 door, etc. Also, if the nanny doesn't have kids herself it is a huge ask to turn her personal vehicle that she pays for into a kid car (crumbs, spills, car seat indents, eliminates her seat capacity if car seats stay in there all the time, muddy shoes, etc).

In an ideal world, you'd either get yourself a small commuter or buy a used minivan for the nanny.

If nanny will be using their own car, plan to offer at least quarterly details, mileage reimbursement, and pay the insurance difference that will come with insuring her car as a work vehicle.

She would need to be sure she has insurance that covers her using her car for business. And she has to want to use her car unless it was a condition of employment.

We bought a nanny car so we can insure it up to the limits we need to protect our assets (plus umbrella). If she gets into an accident while driving your children as part of her job, you will be liable as her employer.

Our nanny doesn't have a car. We live in a major city with mass transit.

Ask her to use hers and pay her a mileage reimbursement.

When I had a nanny, she did. People with au pairs usually have the AP drive their (the employer's) car.

We have two cars and three kids. I work from home every day, DH works from home a few days a week. So far we've made it work with two cars. I'm going to be going into an office a few days a week now and I'm worried about stranding everyone at home when DH and I are both using the cars. I'm thinking about getting a small commuting car for myself or...? Ask nanny to use hers? Ask her to drive me? How do people do it?
