I did it 10 years ago and the stipend didn’t even come close to what I had to pay for childcare for the week for my children (ages 1 and 3). It was very frustrating for me at the time.

I did it about 10 years ago and found out at the end it would have been optional. I only found the one day at my actual school helpful. I ended up not going to the sessions during the year. But I wasn’t a brand new teacher and was annoyed I paid for camp for my kids to attend this.
If you are a new teacher go to this. If you have any experience, just go to the school a day early. Contact the principal or department chair and I’m sure they can arrange that.

I'm the Lead Mentor responder--$200 for 4 days sounds about right. I was going to include $50/day in my response, but wasn't sure.

They are the county specialists for your subject area. Like if you are teaching Algebra, the math people will be there to go over curriculum (standards, pacing, lesson planning), assessments, grading, etc.

$200 for for 4? That’s it? I’ll have to pay $700 for my kids’ camps. That sucks. Can’t believe they mandate to attend and then don’t pay your hourly base salary

The stipend for attending used to be $150. Not sure if they still pay at all, but basically it’s unpaid training. Sorry. Welcome to FCPS :/

The email didn’t say it’s mandatory, but it also didn’t mentioned that it’s optional. While I’m new to teaching, but I’m not new to my school…what will I learn during the training?
If you’re new to teaching, then it’s mandatory. You can ask your principal to get out of it, but that’s up to you. It pretty much takes to how to be a teacher specifically in FCPS.

Hi, can any FCPS teachers tell me more about this? I got an email that all new teachers must participate… it’s basically one week before everyone else goes back. Do we get paid? I don’t have childcare, and I will need to pay for summer camps because of it.
