And I found this resource (see window well diagram that shows slope and 2inch min edge sticking above the soil) helpful. I used it to explain to the project manager why the project needed to be redone.

Thanks! So they are digging out the new metal well thing today to reposition it correctly. Project manager accepted it was a mishap.
The old one was really bad and we were told it can be broken through by the pressure from the dirt at any time. When they dug it out - it had huge holes, thinned out metal, and corrosion all over.
I thank everyone for the ideas here. I leaned so much about those window wells!

If the well is at ground level, I would not trust that to be 100% water proof the same way that a solid sheet of metal is

For starters, lower the soil next to the window well, then dig a trench around your window well that has gravity yo drain the water away from both house and window well. This might require moving soil in that area. I hope you don’t have plants to move…

I’m thinking ahead about my options… if the contractor refuses to dig it out again an and reposition, is there a way to get my 30% deposit back? They contract covered the material. I expect they will try to NOT redo the work and try to persuade me that it’s ok if the edge is at the same level as the soil… I don’t look forward to my meeting with the project manager…

It’s a one-piece metal well. Comes with a lid - thin metal grid and plastic lid… so I can’t attach anything to make it stick out more…

I’m just appalled how a good company with hundreds of 5-star reviews can mess up like that. I feel bad for the workers that obviously did not get proper guidance.

It has to be fixed fast because it's currently a great way for water to drain from your yard into your home. With these July storms, I'd want them out asap

This seems fixable. If wood, can you not just add to the top of it and then bring in more dirt to pound in/slope?
If it is concrete, can you not just put in a top wooden piece (or two) as a nice edge?

They worked so hard…
