OP-- assuming your actual physical was after August 1, 2022 or so, it will be good for tryouts (but only until Sept 1, 2023), but the doc will need to fill out a new form that you will submit to the new school. Docs are used to doing this outside of regular appointments (just drop it off with the front desk and pick it up a couple of days later or have them mail it to you.
(Our pediatrician charges $10 for all forms, whether completed during they physical or separately.)

As others said, you'll need to schedule another physical and have the form completed at that point. So you'll probably find it easier to schedule the appointment during summer and have the form good for the full season. (It's not a special 'sports' appointment-- it's just the kid's regular annual check up and the doc fills out the form based on that.)

Thanks to all who informed us of the 13 months. I was trying to time our appointment just-right and this will make it easier.

We heard from our AD within the last couple months that it is now 13 months. Apparently they made the change because some insurance providers won’t pay for updates until the full year has expired.

Kids should have a yearly physical regardless.

I was told by our AD that my daughter’s would be out of date in August, which is only 12 months. I hadn’t heard of this rule change.

The physical has to be on the MCPS sports physical form. If it is, you should be able to use it. But I’d contact the athletic director if your HS to be sure.

I figured we’d use it for tryouts and then get a new one if he makes the team. I didn’t want to spend $60 and waste an evening if he’s not making the team. Is it true that you always need a new one for HS? The MS one was done in October I think/

He will need a new physical. It is good for one calendar year from the time it happened. Even if it is good for the start of tryouts, if that physical expires during the season, he has to stop playing until he gets a new one.

I believe he will need to submit a new physical since he is now in high school.

Usually they want it yearly and a new one. Last fall might work temporarily but it expires after a year.
