+1 is there a reason you haven't asked your daughter?. I know at 14 and the 14 year old I know has opinions on the shoes I wore and it didn't matter what was popular at school or what my older sister thought.

Op, would you mind sharing the specific kinds your older DD suggested? I have a DD starting private school in the fall as well and she is truly nerdy and fashion impaired by her own admission. She just doesn’t pay attention to what the other girls wear but would like a nice pair. She currently wears brooks adrenaline because they are comfy.

a lot of private schools might have dress codes restricting that

i think your older daughter is the best source here

i wouldn't buy too much - have enough to make it through the first week and then go shopping that weekend once she sees how kids are dressing. that's assuming she cares about dressing like others vs just wearing what she wants

Do you not have uniforms? Converse are cheap, I’d probably go that route and then invest in something more expensive a few weeks in.

My daughter wears 6.5 women’s and buying the kids version of a popular shoe is a decent way to save. I think up to size 8 you can do that

I'm not convinced kids dress that differently at public vs private. I see the same Nike Air Force Ones, short shorts, and midriffs everywhere!

Converse are still in because they are classic they are just less popular than back in the fall according to DD.

In DC, my daughter (rising 10th) goes to a private catholic school, she has a good friend who goes to a private independent school and another who goes to a private school in VA.

All 3 had converse on last week.

Nike blazers are STILL in.

Converse are kind of going out of style but are classic and my DD still likes them. Right now Birkenstocks with Nike socks are a big deal at her private and Uggs have their moment during the winter. She is planning to ask for Uggs for Christmas. Nike has always been popular. Most kids have dunk lows, Nike blazers, or Air Max 270s. Jordan’s are expensive and hard to find but a lot of kids love them.

I think most 9th graders would want to choose their own sneakers?

At my DD's private in another area, the 'popular' cliques seem to wear Nikes. The arty kids, Converse.

Why not just ask your older daughter who just graduated? Also, I have a feeling you won’t be finding the it sneakers on clearance.

My daughter is moving from public to private for 9th and I'm realizing she has next to no decent clothing.
She lives in the crop-top, huge sweatshirt and short, shorts style of public middle school (which are not dress code compliant at her new school).
I'm scrambling to buy some things during summer sales (going on now) because I don't want to spend much.

In terms of sneakers, what is in right now?---especially in the private school world (if you have a kid in this world?)
I've had kids in both (an older daughter just graduated from this private) and the style(s) does seem to vary a bit from public to private.

I know I can wait to see what style she wants come fall but again there are big summer clearance sales going on now--even on name brand things.
