So you've never stayed in one? Yes, they are simple but the few times we've stayed in one they were fine. Clean and comfortable enough. We don't travel to stay in fancy hotels but others may have a different approach. I've had enough experience with London hotels to know that you can spend a lot more money and end up with something not necessarily that much better.

For Paris, I would get the Paris Museum Pass. It will likely save you money, but more importantly, you can skip the ticket buying queue at most places.

How many days will you be in Paris, and do your kids like art? Even if they're not huge art fans, they'll likely enjoy the Orsay museum and the Rodin museum. Both have a lot of sculpture, which at least for my non-artsy teens is more accessible than paintings.

We liked Apex City of London hotel. Walk to Tower Hill tube and you're right by the the bridge. Easy to get to the South Bank, Borough Market and other attractions.

I think Park Plaza in London is a good price and location.

We stayed in a Mercure in Paris. French chain hotel that are just fine, but rooms were big for a family of 5 and they had good location. I also like Hotel Brighton near the Tullieries. Pricier but great boutique hotel in a nice location.

I was recently in London with my 21 yo daughter. Stayed at the Trifalgar Saint James Hilton hotel. Great location walkable to Covent Gardens which your teens may enjoy. Also walkable to Buckingham Palace.

We also did this tea bus tour which was fun. Mix of families and friend groups on the tour. You can reserve a table and plenty of tea cakes and sandwiches included in the tour. They make it fun.
