I basically went on and followed all the people there whom I follow on Twitter, so it’s not dissimilar from my Twitter feed but with fewer Nazis replying.

You cannot choose whose posts you see (it's up to the algorithm), you cannot view chronologically, and you cannot delete your threads account without also deleting your Instagram account.

This. I don't even do Facebook anymore because it's useless, and I'm probably headed that way with Instagram as well because it's just ads and a few posts from the same 3-4 people all the time, plus constantly trying to push me to make or view stories and reels. Meta has a terrible record with taking a good idea and making it substantially worse, usually in the name of further exploiting your data and violating your privacy.
Still better than twitter

I was skeptical but I really like it so far.
Of course, I think it helps that so far the only messages I see are from those I follow on Instagram. Unlike on Twitter where my timeline was basically person I follow, ad, ad, 4 suggested tweets right-wing in nature, person I follow, person I follow, etc.
