In any case it sounds like your child is unhappy. After several months, I agree that I would start looking for something else.

The standing around is so strange to me. Groups of toddlers never stand around in my experience; if you don’t give them toys, they decide random stuff is toys (and usually break it).

OP, to answer your actual question: my daycare has limited organized activities for the under 2s (usually like one thing a day) but lots of unstructured playground time and toys available everywhere and staff reading to them/playing with them. 2 and up they have a more structured day with more set activities, although pick up and drop off are still free play times. Snacks/meals are always at consistent times. Have you talked to your daycare about what the daily schedule is? But if you can find one it really sounds like a new daycare might be best.

Definitely a new daycare. I don’t think my kid stops playing ever except when eating/napping.

+1. Our daycare always has activities going on at dropoff to make transition easier, and my son is always on the playground or playing with something at the end of the day.

+1 lots of activities already set up when we arrive and kids are busy. Of course some have a hard time with dropoff or just a hard day in general. But this place doesn't seem set up for success.

Not a stimulating place for your child, for sure!

The kids at my daycare always seem super busy and excited. They have cut down on the outdoor activity on bad air quality days but there’s plenty of space to run around the classroom as well as an indoor gym. Kids should not be standing around looking bored.

My DC seems to be unhappy to go to daycare, even after several months there. There’s typically crying on the way in from the car. One thing I’ve noticed is that all the toddlers seem to be standing around a lot. When I drop off in the morning, the kids don’t seem to have anything to do, they’re standing around looking at each other. I receive updates about a couple activities on the app, usually something like drawing, playdoh, going outside, playing with blocks, eating a snack.

I feel like DC might be bored of the lack of interaction/activities. It seems basic compared to how much there is at home with a dedicated playroom, backyard playground, water table, etc.

At afternoon pickup, DC is usually on the lookout for me, sometimes sitting in a chair facing the door and excited to leave. Doesn’t cry then.

Any recommendations for this issue?
