Wow the DC excise tax rates have really gone up.

A regular 2-door Jeep Wrangler would be hit with a 9.1% excise tax. Ouch.

There was a change. The DC DMV website doesn’t have a good summary but there is one here. Only fully electric vehicles are exempt but there is a sliding scale for other vehicles depending on weight and MPG.

Buying a 2023 Volvo XC90 Recharge - trying to figure out if state sales tax will be waived with the DC EV policy? It does qualify for the federal refund for EVs - does that mean it qualifies for the DC tax exception as well?
