Can someone either explain to me how the heck to make audible more user-friendly (explain like I’m five) or perhaps recommend a different app where you can easily just purchase any book that you want and hear it? Thank you!

Audible may have different plans, but the one I have charges a monthly fee that gives me one credit per month. Most if not all of Audible's audiobooks cost one credit and also have a dollar value, so you can buy more whenever you want.

I only use Audible for audiobooks I can't get through my libraries. Unfortunately there are more and more of those now that the Recorded Books and Overdrive apps are both gone. Libby is the only game in town now, at least for my libraries. I used to use Hoopla too, but now it seems to be for music and video only, no books.

Libby and Hoopla are free with your library card and have audiobooks galore.

DP I have cards for 9 different area library systems. I usually don't ever have to wait long for a book, even hot ones. Yet, it seems more authors have exclusive agreements with Audible and I can't get the audiobooks from the library. For example, I'd really like to listen to Andy Weir's books but none of the libraries have them in English either with Libby or Hoopla. I can listen in Spanish but since I'm not a Spanish speaker, that doesn't do me much good.

There are a few other authors who I've been able to listen to the first 3 books of a series because they're available through the library but not the next 3 which are only available on Audible. Yes, there are other audio books I can get from the library but sometimes you just want a particular one......

Use your audible credits up tho. It’s pretty easy. You just say I want this book with a credit. I don’t exactly know how it works but I think you get one credit a month. And I think you can use it on any book on there. I also used to subscribe but canceled.

I like Libby app tho.

I use Libby for all my audiobooks. You link your library card and check them out for free.
