I recently sent a high schooler on one of these trips, and I absolutely would contact the tour operator if I knew this was happening.

If you wanted to police this, you should have chaperoned. Otherwise let your kid handle it themself.

What do you think teens are doing on weekends while not on trips?

Nonsense! It’s a great age for her to learn semi-independent travel.

You can’t shelter your kids until the day they graduate high school and then ship them across the country to college.

The teen years are when to learn how to be independent as an adult.

Is your daughter stuck rooming with these kids?

And is this marijuana?

If so definitely complain.

I’d probably complain regardless….but…if it gets out your daughter was the one who complained, it could get back to her and ruin her trip.

Call the tour company.

Call the company and report the behavior and ask them to do something about it.

We sent our high schooler on a group trip (not with school, but with a private tour company). We understand there are kids day drinking and smoking. Apparently it's very obvious to all the teens, so I assume the leaders must realize it. I just looked at the program rules - it says dismissal for kids caught drinking and smoking tobacco products. Our high schooler has called us every night upset by this, and this is obviously not what we thought would happen. What would you do?
