Ha, my gardening hat is a Tilly hat. I do love it, but I look kind of silly in it. I think the issue is that the styling is fairly sporty and I am not really a sporty person -- I just need a very practical sun hat. But I agree they make good quality hats! I have looked at their wide brimmed straw hats as an option but am worried they won't stay on my head in the wind, since they don't come with a tie or strap.

My skin burns really easily and while of course I wear sunscreen, it's not enough. I like a hat big enough to protect not only my face but my ears, neck, and possibly even my shoulders/back/chest to some degree.
I have a great wide brim hat I use for gardening, the pool, and running errands. But it make me look dumb and old. It's a gardening hat with a very wide brim that has some rigid structure, plus an adjustable strap so it doesn't fly away. Incredibly practical, but also supremely uncool.
I have travel coming up and would love a cute straw hat or maybe a twill hat with better style, to use instead. Something that doesn't scream "middle aged mom with no fashion sense." I'm okay with a narrower brim than my current hat, but would love it to offer more protection than just a baseball cap or one of those little bucket hats.
Any ideas?
