Yes it can be life threatening. Do you want to wear a mask?

Get evaluated and diagnosed properly by a doctor. Push to get a sleep study. Dont let them rely on just questions. Some snoring is just snoring. Sleep Apnea needs to be addressed because it can be life threatening. Its easy and non-invasive.

My husband started the process for being evaluated for sleep apnea by seeing an ent who referred him to a pulmonologist who scheduled a sleep study for which he will be doing on July 15th. From there he see the pulmonologist again to see how severe his apnea is and what machine is best.

You are assuming that OP has sleep apnea.

That's how she finds out whether she does or not.

PP said that OP needs a CPAP.

You need a sleep study. Nose strips are not going to help your sleep apnea. You need a CPAP.

Push HARD for a sleep study. Shop around until someone approves one.

I went to a neurologist who knew that even minor sleep apnea could be really debilitating, which it was in my case. I've been using the CPAP religiously. It's easy because I know how dangerous and insidious sleep apnea can be. Super harmful to your health.

I was a borderline case but still qualified. Check out reddit: r/cpap and related subreddits.

Before bothering w/a diagnosis, know how you feel about being prescribed a mask (CPAP & machine)

This is terrible advice.

Breathe Right strips do nothing for sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a life threatening condition. “How you feel” is pretty much irrelevant. What’s relevant is “what do you need?” There is a huge variety of machines and masks, as well as oral devices that work for some people.

OP, I’d suggest you start with your primary care physician. Describe your symptoms. If others have witnessed you stop breathing be sure to mention that. The physician will likely order a home sleep study, which is no big deal. If that doesn’t persuade your insurance you may need a full study in a sleep lab with all the wires and monitors.

Shop around for your CPAP. I’d have been better off buying for cash than going through the rental rigamarole with my insurance. Working with the insurance vendor may, however, let you actually try on different masks to see which you like best.

I get sleep apnea when I eat garlic or onions. When I don't, I'm fine.

+1000! Also there are some exercises on youtube for your throat that actually do help tone your throat and help with snoring.

Starting to think this might be an issue for me. Loud snoring, dry mouth in morning, headache, excessive daytime sleepiness, exhaustion. I’m 48, 5’6” 130 lbs.

If you have sleep apnea can you tell me about how you went about getting a diagnosis. Has treatment made a difference for you. Anything else you can share.
