Those are THE perfect ages for a Disney cruise. Your family will love it and your children will thank you. You will enjoy alone time with your husband, lounging in adult only areas, including pools, fancy restaurants, lounges and beaches, all while knowing your kids are safe and having fun with the kids clubs.

I really think it depends on why you don’t like cruises. There are some things dcl does better than other lines —
— customer service with a smile (especially if you do concierge level)
— shows are fabulous
— fireworks deck party is fun
— character visits
— private island is nice

Other cruises do other things better:
— more dining choices outside the main dining room
— more activities like rock walls, ropes course, live game shows, water park on private island, better water slides
— some cruise lines have better kids club programming for older ES (8-12). I think the disney kid clubs are weak for this age group.
— some of the disney dining experience are kind of irritating— the new marvel dining room has lousy food and you are forced to watch a pretty dumb movie at top volume on massive screens. Disney tries to make every dinner an experience/theme and sometimes it is just not an added benefit.
— disney doesn’t have many ships so has really limited itineraries. So if you have a specific week, location and length of cruise in mind, dcl might not work for you.

All cruise lines have certain common flaws. A lot of the food sucks, but the other side is that there is a lot of it so you can usually find good stuff f you try. All ships are crowded at least in some areas. All rooms are small compared to resort rooms. Most ships don’t have great gyms and I don’t think the DCL ships have jogging tracks. All cruise ship pools stink.

We’ve been on about 5 cruises including 2 with disney. We are doing Norwegian for our next cruise mainly so we can get the higher adventure activities. You may also want to price out the club level for NCL or RCI compared to a regular disney room—club level comes with lots of benefits. Of course, if what your kids really want is to cruise with Mickey or Tiana, then that’s going to make your decision.

I liked our a lot (2017) but it was expensive then and prices have literally doubled so doubt we will do it again.

Disney Cruises are great. We’ve even taken one without the kids because the adult section on Dream/Fantasy are great. Go concierge if you can. It’s amazing.

Crowding is much less of an issue on the older ships.

It's worth doing once. We went via military discount and it was fun but way too many out of control kids with checked out parents. If your kids like Disney it may be more worth it but if I cruised again I would go to a different one. No real complaints. Food was very good, room was very nice but the overcrowded misbehaving kids made it tuff. And, the kids club didn't have a lot going on and ours hated it.

We have done 12 or so cruises. Three on Disney. No one does it better. Even my teens would prefer Disney.

Despite being expensive we finally booked one for spring break next year - so I can't share first hand experience. But two of our family members have, one twice, and both said they are great for parents who want to relax as well. And they highly recommended it to us. But you will hear people go on about how overpriced they are, but Disney supposedly does cruises very well. Let's hope!

I love Disney Cruises. I liked cruises prior to Disney but Disney is a notch way above the other lines and absolutely knows how to entertain your kid enough so that its truly a vacation for all of you. 5 and 8 are perfect ages for it, too.

Disney Cruises are a lot of fun. I bet you’ll become a cruise fan afterwards. It’s a super easy and relaxing vacation.

Disney cruises are awesome and I say that as someone who won't go to their crowded and overrated theme parks.
Up close and very personal access for children to their characters. My little son fell in love with Snow White on the ship.
Great shows with interesting, top notch special effects.
Very fun private island swimming lagoon.
Great food (sign up for the early dinner).
Tons of onboard activities.

We've done the western Caribbean cruise 3 times.
