He’s got a lot of cross-over appeal. More rock than country now. Latest albums sounds like mix of Eagles, Neil Young, Allman Brothers, Jackson Browne, even some 70s prog bands.

He's grown and evolved and I'm sure in a much better place but I liked his music a lot more when he was a dirtbag. He had an mind-blowing show at the Rock and Roll Hotel on H street a long time ago.

Jason is my absolute favorite artist. I’ve seen him in concert 8 times and every single time it feels like it was even better than the last. Cannot wait to see him at WolfTrap in August.

For the PP who wants to check out more of his older stuff, make sure you listen to:

Goddamn Lonely Love
Relatively Easy
Elephant
Something More Than Free
Life You Chose
Last of My Kind
Tupelo

Really, any and everything. He’s brilliant.

We are vampires gets me every time. And his wife is badass. Saw him at red rocks this spring and she was on stage with him the whole time. So good.

Agree with the Southeastern recommendation. To get into the swing of this tour, you might listen to these:

King of Oklahoma
Super 8
24 Frames
Last of My Kind
Cover Me Up
cast Iron Skillet

And he likely won’t play it this tour, but Outfit, a song he wrote with Drive by Truckers, is IMO something everyone should listen to. Enjoy!

What’s his best album? Or 5 best songs?

Probably trite to say, but Southeastern is, quite simply, spectacular from top to bottom.

BTW, if you are like Jason Isbell and are looking for a similar sound, Drayton Farley.

It is really good. I heard “Save the World” from the EP he put out before Weathervanes and it was like a punch to the gut. “Vestavia Hills” is really good too.

Probably the wrong forum for country rock but damn “Weathervanes” by Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit is one damn beautiful album. And the lyrics are like effing poetry.
